A little bit late, but I voted AND wrote today, so I’m excited!
It’s day 2 of NaNoWriMo and I think my timeliness will be a factor this month. It may, or may not be after midnight, but I’m determined to stay on track this time, this year. Today was election day and this is the first time that I actually voted in person on election day. Usually, I early vote at the county, or do absentee ballots. My voting precinct wasn’t actually that bad. There were plenty of booths to vote in, the only bottleneck to the process was that there were only two people working to check people in to pull the ballots. When I early voted last year for the…

It’s NaNoWriMo 2021! I’m totally going to do better this year.
It’s that time of year again! It’s November 1, which means NaNoWriMo 2021 is here! I know I say this every year…but I’m definitely going to make a new post every day for at least this month! This is really important for me. I really need to get back into writing. Writing is something that helps me focus and grounds my thoughts. I definitely have been just kind of floating aimlessly for quite some time, but I’m happy to focus and get back to writing. If this posts late…it’s not my fault. I couldn’t start writing this post until I put up my Christmas Tree, because now that I’m a…

Community Matters Most During Social Distancing Amid a Pandemic
So lately…things have changed in this world. A lot. Like…a lot. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t fully understand everything that’s going on and I don’t want to say that I’m scared…but I definitely don’t feel safe. I don’t feel safe in the sense that I am constantly in fear for my family members, as health issues run rampant in my family. Last year, I suffered immense loss and I can’t imagine doing it a second year in a row. In 2019, I lost my doggy (lung tumor), my father-in-law, my cousin, my uncle, another uncle and it has just been a struggle. Last year was also a…

I Moved to the Middle of the Woods
I live where? Yeah I live in the middle of the woods. Fun. *record scratch* Yeah that’s me. I bet you’re wondering how I got here. Funny story. So for some circumstances outside of our control due to stupid landlords and lack of common sense, we saw ourselves in the need of a new place to live when our lease expired. We live in a place that has a bit of a housing crisis, where it was the country a few years ago, and there isn’t enough housing to keep up with the demand. Also, we have Kent State right down the street so having a large population of students…

A Million Little Things Is More Than Just A Show Title
Trigger Warning: This article deals with the topic of suicide This past week, I’ve spent time catching up on the new seasons of shows, as well as checking out some new series that have premiered recently. In the age of binge watching, I prefer to let a couple weeks worth of shows build up so that I can accurately determine if I like the show, or if I don’t. I don’t always like a show from the first episode, but if I stick with it, it ends up being one of my favorites. The show that has really become my favorite is A Million Little Things. A Million Little Things…

New School Year, No More Problems
This past week began the start of the school year for many teachers across the state of Ohio. Parents, teachers and students are in the back to school grind. Last weekend, Ohio hosted a tax-free weekend on clothes and school supplies. The people in the area I live in definitely took advantage and packed the stores with parents trying to get their kids ready for the school year. For the past 20 years of my life, this has been the most exciting part of the year for me. As nerdy as it sounds, new school supplies, new clothes and new bags were some of my favorite parts of the…

Developers of The Game Raft Held an AMA
My new favorite co-op game is Raft, a multiplayer survival game where you are floating on driftwood and you have to fish and craft in order to survive. It is currently in Early Access on steam and available for $19.99. The game was released on May 23, 2018 and already has a large following. Although it is still in Early Access, it has a 7/10 rating on steam and 6,902 reviews. Raft was started by a group of three students in college as a project, and now it’s blown up. I’ll write a review on the game later when I get more hours on the game as I only…

Traveling to Miami, Cleveland Airport
Early in the month of May, I took a trip down to the beautiful city of Miami, Florida. The last time I had been in Miami was Christmas 2017, so this was going to be drastically different trip. Last trip had very comfortable temperatures around 70 degrees or so. This one was going to be hot. Really hot. Cleveland Airport The first part of my trip to Miami began at the Cleveland Airport (CLE) at 6 am. I thought it would be dead quiet because I didn’t expect anyone to be flying that early on a Wednesday. I was wrong. When I got to the airport, I was…

Teacher Appreciation Week 2018
Today marks the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week. When I was in college, this was the week I always looked forward to when I became a full blown teacher. The schools that I student taught at would have amazing spreads for breakfast and lunch that the parents would put together for the teachers. Parents would send in presents and acknowledge all the work they did for the students and the care that we give each and every scholar that walks through our doors. That’s at least what happened when I was student teaching. Teacher Appreciation Week in my District While the experience I had student teaching was a…

National School Walkout Day
National School Walkout Today, April 20, 2018, students and educators across the country are participating in the National School Walkout. This day is all about finding ways to secure our schools, and help them be safe learning environments. That’s all any of us want to be, is to keep schools as a safe, sacred place. There are a lot of politics involved, and although I don’t shy away from discussing what I feel and believe, that isn’t what this post is about. I’m not focused on any particular bill, or people fighting for their second amendment right. If you believe in something, fight for it. So, that’s what…

Teaching Isn’t Always Rainbows and Butterflies
I have been holding on to this post for a while. I had a very difficult time at work, the worst of my career. My anxiety spiked so high, every day I considered walking out and never returning. Some of the time, I was just sitting there staring at the students thinking, “It can’t get any worse. It can’t get any worse. They can’t be serious. This can’t be real.” I gave all my oxygen to people that could breathe I gave away my money and now we don’t even speak I drove miles and miles, but would you do the same for me? Save Myself by Ed Sheeran…

I’m Weird and I Know It
I wish could tie you up in my shoes Make you feel unpretty too I was told I was beautiful But what does that mean to you Unpretty by TLC Growing up can be hard, but it’s specifically hard when there are stereotypes that you are expected to live up to. I am a black woman, however growing up in a ‘diverse’ school, I was an outsider. I was the only black girl in many of my classes in elementary school, while most of the students were either white, Indian, Filipino, Asian, and everything in between. There were certain expectations that were placed on me purely for…

Summer Memories Last a Lifetime
Maybe sometimes we feel afraid, but it’s all right The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change Don’t you think it’s strange? Put Your Records On by Corrine Bailey Rae Watching this video brought me back to my childhood. Watching this video brought me back to this one summer of pure teenager happiness. Growing up, I didn’t have many kids my age that lived in my neighborhood, so I excelled at playing alone, and getting lost in my own imagination. This imagination still lives on today, which is why I sometimes prefer to sit in a quiet room alone and let…

Flooded Timelines with Love and Travel
And you can never go back To Avalon Stolen with the bold and the beautiful Those days are gone Don’t you know those days are gone And you can never go back You Can Never Go Back by Jon McLaughlin Love is such an interesting concept in your 20’s. I am in the point in my life where my entire timeline looks like nothing but weddings, babies, and engagements. It is a place that was unfathomable even a few years ago for me. A few years ago, I was just happy to have one of my crushes acknowledge my existence. Actually, I was just happy to…

Who are you Loyal to?
Tell me who you loyal to Do it start with your woman or your man? (Mmm) Do it end with your family and friends? (Mmm) Or you’re loyal to yourself in advance? I said, tell me who you loyal to LOYALTY. by Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna Loyalty. It is one of the things that I have been dealing with since elementary school that still comes up. Who are you loyal to, and who is loyal to you? Who can you trust? How do you know you can trust them? This is something I’ve personally struggled with. My ‘best friends’ turn out to be my…

Countdown to New Year’s Eve!
I’m good, I’m good, I’m great Know it’s been a while, now I’m mixing up the drank Party Monster by The Weeknd This weekend is about to be one of the biggest party weekends of the year. New Year’s Eve parties are going to be upon us soon. For me, I hope to drink so much that I forget New Year’s Day marks the halfway point of my winter break. High school is over, college is over, and I’ve moved too many times to count. The friends that I had in high school, I barely speak to anymore. Fly Out a Window
Face your fears Stare them down Don’t be scared Stand your ground Cause nothing is scary as it appears All you gotta do is face your fears Face Your Fears by Rachel Bloom There comes a time, when you realize you aren’t a kid anymore. Some people are prepared, and just know. They are born with this instinct, this drive, this “I’ve been an adult since I was 5 years old.” I didn’t have that. I realized I was an adult when I was standing in front of a group of 13-20 year olds, and realized that I’m their teacher and have to keep them alive…

The Coffee That I Need In The Morning
“You’re the coffee that I need in the morning You’re my sunshine in the rain when it’s pouring Won’t you give yourself to me Give it all, oh” It took me a long time to get to where I am, relationship wise. I’ve been through a lot of bad relationships, and a lot of dark times. It took an amazing person to come into my life, and I’m thoroughly blessed that he came when I finally was open to another human being. I’m young, as some of my students say, “too young,” however; we are happy. You’re the coffee that I need in the morning…

Always Say What’s On Your Mind
“Someone told me, “always say what’s on your mind” And I am only being honest with you, I I get lonely and make mistakes from time to time” The world is changing. Of course it is. Also, I am in the generation that is changing it. I am in my 20’s and we are a huge movement for change, and social justice. Whether everyone recognizes their potential, it is there. Someone told me, ‘always say what’s on your mind Although I can’t always do this, I am trying to live bolder and speak my mind more. You can’t make change and improvements, if no one knows…
