New School Year, No More Problems

This past week began the start of the school year for many teachers across the state of Ohio. Parents, teachers and students are in the back to school grind. Last weekend, Ohio hosted a tax-free weekend on clothes and school supplies. The people in the area I live in definitely took advantage and packed the stores with parents trying to get their kids ready for the school year.   For the past 20 years of my life, this has been the most exciting part of the year for me. As nerdy as it sounds, new school supplies, new clothes and new bags were some of my favorite parts of the…

    Teacher Appreciation Week 2018

Today marks the beginning of Teacher Appreciation Week. When I was in college, this was the week I always looked forward to when I became a full blown teacher. The schools that I student taught at would have amazing spreads for breakfast and lunch that the parents would put together for the teachers.   Parents would send in presents and acknowledge all the work they did for the students and the care that we give each and every scholar that walks through our doors. National School Walkout Day

National School Walkout Today, April 20, 2018, students and educators across the country are participating in the National School Walkout. This day is all about finding ways to secure our schools, and help them be safe learning environments. That’s all any of us want to be, is to keep schools as a safe, sacred place.   There are a lot of politics involved, and although I don’t shy away from discussing what I feel and believe, that isn’t what this post is about. I’m not focused on any particular bill, or people fighting for their second amendment right.   If you believe in something, fight for it. So, that’s what…

Teaching Isn’t Always Rainbows and Butterflies

I have been holding on to this post for a while. I had a very difficult time at work, the worst of my career. My anxiety spiked so high, every day I considered walking out and never returning.   Some of the time, I was just sitting there staring at the students thinking, “It can’t get any worse. It can’t get any worse. They can’t be serious. This can’t be real.” I gave all my oxygen to people that could breathe I gave away my money and now we don’t even speak I drove miles and miles, but would you do the same for me? Save Myself by Ed Sheeran…

    Fly Out a Window

Face your fears Stare them down Don’t be scared Stand your ground Cause nothing is scary as it appears All you gotta do is face your fears   Face Your Fears by Rachel Bloom     There comes a time, when you realize you aren’t a kid anymore. Some people are prepared, and just know. They are born with this instinct, this drive, this “I’ve been an adult since I was 5 years old.”   I didn’t have that. I realized I was an adult when I was standing in front of a group of 13-20 year olds, and realized that I’m their teacher and have to keep them alive…
